We are all familiar with stress - both positive and negative. Whenever we perceive a situation as unmanageable - no matter what it is - we feel stressed. Perhaps you feel stressed when you are under pressure to perform from inside or outside, when you are experiencing conflicts in your close environment, when your health is strained or simply when you want to go beyond your limits. However, if we can perceive such situations as an exciting challenge, the felt stress enables us to work with great focus for a short period of time and perform at our best. However, if the stress-related tension rises above a certain level, performance decreases. You become more hurried, impatient and error-prone, your ability to concentrate decreases and the increased tension often leads to conflicts or inner withdrawal. Physically, two opposing areas of our autonomic nervous system, which controls and regulates vital bodily functions such as heartbeat, breathing, digestion and metabolism, are active in stressful situations. The sympathetic nervous system, which is mainly responsible for performance-enhancing activities, increases the heart and respiratory rate, raises blood pressure and provides energy by breaking down carbohydrates while maintaining a certain basic tension, while the parasympathetic nervous system reduces the heart and respiratory rate, leads to muscle relaxation, lowers blood pressure and provides rest. Ideally, both areas of our autonomic nervous system are balanced and keep us in equilibrium - like Ying and Yang. In today's fast-paced world, however, we rarely get to rest or don't allow ourselves to do so. It is therefore important to activate the parasympathetic nervous system through postures and breathing techniques. If the functions of the parasympathetic nervous system predominate, people become calm, relaxed and can regenerate. In "Yoga for Stress Relief & Inner Peace", we take a break from the outer world of stress and hectic and return home to an inner state of calm and serenity.
